Great Dane Nationals 2004 Fort Worth

TBone entered 5 Parades....
GDCA National 2004 in
Fort Worth, Texas. This wonderful senior boy, T-Bone, age 9-1/2 years,
shown with his proud mom, Midge Kelly, was entered in 5 Parades at the
National, including the Rescue Parade, the Veteran's Parade, and the
Obedience Title Holder's Parade! He has his Canine Good Citizen
Certificate and his AKC Companion Dog title. He helps foster other
Danes in his home for Dane Angel Network, and he is still the
challenging boy he was as a young kid. He came from a life
threatening rescue situation many years ago and has become an ambassador
for his breed and the heart and soul of his loving mom.
We have many wonderful memories of this
week, here is a biopic of the Dane Angel Adventure

Rescue Parade Sara & Michelle
Sarah is about 5 years
old. She was shy and unsocialized at first, but is now a very
confident and sweet girl that likes kids and other dogs and
everyone she meets. She was given up because a new baby came
along in the family and there was no more time for Sarah. She
was thrown outside and chained to a tree until she was luckily
turned over to rescue. Her new family keeps Sarah INSIDE, and
even lets her sleep UNDER the covers with them, and with her
head on the pillow! She has a Shelty brother to keep
entertained and now gets to go for rides and walks and to the
dog park to play with lots of new friends. She is cherished now
as a family member, which she appreciates and gives back
TEN-FOLD.Yea! Sarah!

Parade Ebony, ILP, CGC & Dusti
This is
SUMMEBIRD’S EBONY SONG. She is 7 years old. Ebony was discovered 3
years ago this Thanksgiving weekend, living in a small backyard with
5 other dogs. The students who owned these dogs would toss out food
all at one time and those willing to fight for the food were the
ones who ate. Ebony’s sweet nature was also her downfall, as she
would not fight for the food and was slowly starving to death. She
had starved for so long that she couldn’t eat when she was rescued.
She had to learn to eat all over again. She was so weak she couldn’t
stand up for more than a few minutes at a time. She had been beaten
too. It was over a year before her new mom could pick up a mop or
broom without Ebony dropping to the floor in terror. When Ebony
gained her strength back she had to be treated for multiple
parasites as well as heartworms.
Today she walks
proudly with her Mom who refused to let her die. Her mom also
promised Ebony that she will never know hunger or cruelty again.
Ebony has blossomed into the beautiful happy girl she was meant to
be. She shares her home with 3 other lucky rescued Great Danes and
is an ambassador for her breed when she goes with Mom on home visits
and appearing at rescue events. She has recently gotten her ILP and
entered into Obedience classes in hopes of some future fun in the
Obedience ring. Yea! Ebony!

Nat'l 2004 Rescue
Parade Simon, ILP, CD, CGC & Mandy & Jeff
My name is SIMON! I am a
3-year-old mantle. I was rescued at 7 months of age from an
apparent drug addict who was harboring my mom and dad and other
great Danes, to breed and make money from selling us puppies. We
were kept in very filthy conditions in the backyard together and had
no contact with the outside world (except for our owner who liked to
kick us around). Thankfully, my sister and I were rescued. I was
scared of everything, including the nice rescue Angels that came to
get me. I had to be carried out of the backyard, which was the only
world I knew, because I was too afraid to walk on my own.
I developed OCD, causing severe
pain and even lameness in both of my shoulders. I required two
painful and expensive surgeries. But as you can see, I am fully
recovered now, thanks to my mom who is walking with me!
I enrolled in obedience classes so
that I could learn manners and socialization. I have passed my AKC
Canine Good Citizen Test, earned my Companion Dog obedience title,
and I am a registered Delta Society Pet Partner therapy dog. I
volunteer once a week at the Flower Mound Public Library with their
Sit! Stay! Read! Program for children with reading difficulties. I
am also working on passing my Dog Scouts of America test.
I am very lucky to have a new
family, whom I know loves me very much, and who has also helped me
build my confidence, keep me safe and give me the most wonderful new
life.

Rescue Parade T-Bone, ILP, CD, CGC & Midge
My name is
T-Bone and I’m 9-1/2 years old. My mom and dad found me overseas
in Croatia when I was 7 months old, starving, unsocialized, and
severely neglected. I was real unhealthy, with bloody elbow sores
from living outside on dirt and concrete and my hair was like
dirty straw. I was luckily adopted and brought home to American
and now am a proud ALL-AMERICAN BOY! I have helped my mom start
two Great Dane rescues and give my best to the orphaned Danes that
she brings home for me to show how to get up on the comfy couches
and how to do silly zoomies around the yard. It is important for
me to help raise awareness for the plight of less fortunate Danes
like I was a long time ago.
I joined the Great Dane Club of Greater Dallas
(with mom, of course). I have enrolled in many Obedience classes
and went into the Obedience ring for the first time when I was
seven years old to get my Companion Dog title. I got my Canine
Good Citizen Certificate, and I continue to try to be an
ambassador for my mom and for Great Dane rescue efforts whenever I
am needed. Thank you, mom, for rescuing me!!

 Nat'l 2004 Rescue Parade
Harvey & JodiAnn
Sweet Harvey is about 18 months
old. He is a loving goofy puppy who was given up by a family that
had toddlers, who he knocked down occasionally. He was kept
outside a lot and in a crate that was too small for him. The
family decided he was too much trouble and didn’t have the time
for him so they surrendered him to Dane Rescue. When he came in
to rescue, he had horrible swollen elbows, a bothersome cherry
eye, and was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. He doesn’t know that
he might be put together wrong and plays with his companion dogs,
his human family, with the cats in the house and in general is the
sweetest tempered boy that is so grateful for having been taken
out of the home that didn’t appreciate him for who he is. He
loves life in his new family and is ever so happy to just know
that he is loved bigger than life. He gives back that love 100
fold every day with all his heart. Yea! Harvey!

Parade Merlin, CGC & Carol
My name is Merlin and I am 3-1/2
years old. My sister, Lizzy, and I were tied to a tree and
abandoned when we were 5 months old. I was covered in oozing
itchy skin with bad mange, fever and I was so sick that the
doctors didn’t know if I could be saved. I was taken in by Dane
Angel Network and began to get better with good food and love and
time. I became a very affectionate boy, and am now living with a
Chihuahua named Spock, who I help save from boredom. My mom takes
me everywhere with her and I have gone into obedience classes to
show everyone how smart I am and now have my Canine Good
Citizenship Certificate!. I am very grateful to have been rescued
from death’s door and am very lucky to be loved by my mom, who I
am walking tonight in the ring. Thank you mom for loving me!!

2004 Rescue Parade Windex & Millie
Windex is
about 3-1/2 years old. He was given up because his young owner
was getting a divorce and there was no more time to give to him.
He came to rescue with an infected tail that was so bad that it
had to be amputated. He was very very skinny and fretful. He now
lives quietly with two other rescued Danes and a house full of
rescued ferrets as he helps his mom do ferret rescue. He is an
ambassador for his breed every time he goes out with mom to any
events and loves when folks come up to say how stunning he is. He
is a happy boy now and very much the pride of his new mom, who he
is walking with tonight. Yea! Windex!
